The end of the year brings both the final lists for the best and worst films of the year with this being the bottom of the barrel. Even with an incredibly strange year of releases 10 films felt worthy enough to include on this list that truly missed the mark in some spectacular way. As always though, especially with my worst of the year lists take these as the worst films I saw rather than a perfect reflection of the year overall. Where I go out of my way to see the films many consider to be the "best", the same cannot be said to what people consider the "worst" so I am sure there are films out there that truly deserve to be on this list but are not. As always if you want to follow my reviews throughout the year further or engage with me in any way follow me on twitter @BP_MovieReviews! With that said, lets get on with the Top 10 Worst Films of 2020!

#10-The WitchesOnce legendary director Robert Zemeckis has reaches a streak of bad luck in recent years with The Witches possibly being his most painful feature yet. A truly lifeless feature with horrible performances from talented actors and no sense of the childhood fun which it was going for, there was a reason this film was dumped onto HBO Max rather than waiting for a theatrical release. |
#9-The Tax CollectorIf anything The Tax Collector sadly stands as David Ayer's most boring feature with not a single element of the film feeling inspired or even creative. A beyond bland story that is convoluted and incredibly bloated even with a shorter 95-minute runtime leads to one of the most painful films to sit through of the year. |
#8-Artemis FowlSpeaking of films that were seemingly easy to dump onto streaming services from their planned theatrical release, Artemis Fowl was one of the first films to suffer this fate moving to Disney+ where it clearly belonged. This annoying sci-fi adventure couldn't even have good visual effects as it falls apart into disaster within the first couple of minutes. |
#7-Project PowerAfter their fun but undeniably flawed 2016 effort titled Nerve, it was incredibly exciting to see what directors Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman would do next but Project Power was a clear disappointment. Not only does the film waste a rather strong cast but it also is incredibly confused in both what it is trying to say and how it wants to say it. The film as a result ends up saying nothing and being a mix of boring and just plain confusing. |
#6-The Christmas Chronicles: Part 2Where Netflix holiday original films are not known for quality, The Christmas Chronicles: Part 2 clearly takes the cake as the most painful addition to their lineup this year. Stripping away any of the charisma that the first film had in favor of annoying characters, lazy screenplay, and truly horrible villain; there is no reason this series needed to return and even less reason one should subject themselves to this disaster. |
#5-Scoob!Despite their being legitimate potential in an animated Scooby-Doo movie, Scoob! dropped the ball on pretty much every level. With cringey jokes that lost any hint of relevance years ago and an all around lazy story that clearly was just going through the motions: this is truly the worst that the animation genre has to offer and speaks to a sad state of laziness that is creeping into what could be the most inspired section of film out there. |
#4-The Kissing Booth 2The choice to make The Kissing Booth 2 be 132-minutes long is still a decision that haunts me to this day. Throwing away all the logic set up in the first films (which granted was horrendous in its own right), the sequel tricks the audience into thinking that it understands why so many loved the first film and in return will give pure fan service only to then subject the audience to a painfully endless and boring story. It might be more respectable than the first film but it arguably is even harder to actually sit through. |
#3-365 DaysThe award for most morally corrupt film in 2020 easily goes to 365 Days. A long rape fantasy that is portrayed as being a serious romantic connection is clearly a disgusting idea but the film embraces this and so did horny couples in the first few months of quarantine. The film basically is just gross porn that carries little merit or redeemable qualities throughout its runtime. |
#2-DolittleDolittle easily was the most painful theatrical experience I have ever faced. With absolutely irremediably visual effects, painful humor, and a story that will make audiences clawing their eyes out with bordem; Dolittle is nothing short of a total disaster yet somehow managed to only make #2 on the list. |
#1-Wild Mountain ThymeWild Mountain Thyme is unBEEliveable. Not only is the film genuinely incompetent in both acting and screenplay but then the ending comes giving possibly the worst twist in the history of film. It isn't even that the twist clearly had a purpose that it failed to achieve like with Serenity but rather it comes so out of left field that even thinking it would do anything of positive substance to the film really speaks to how out of touch the filmmakers behind Wild Mountain Thyme were when writing the project. How they convinced this cast to act with this script is beyond me, all I know is that Wild Mountain Thyme truly deserves the title of being the worst film of 2020. |
