Every September right between the end of the summer blockbusters and beginning of awards season I like to expand my film knowledge and check out movies from 1964 and before. From classics that most grew up with to obscure foreign dramas, September Classics gives me a chance to watch and review films I normally would never see otherwise. For September Classics 2019 I take a look at films outside the traditional narrative of early films and filmmakers, From Charlie Chaplin creating dark dramas to Agnès Varda making her place in a male dominated industry. Creators pushing what early documentaries and animated films with the emotionally devastating Night and Fog and dream like The Fabulous Baron Munchausen.
